I'm trying to install and set the Learning Space 5 so that I can show other people the flow and features of LS5.

I've already read the installation guide and checked every step I had made. (including S/W version)

But when I access here,
"asp error occurs.

Error message's like this
"java.lang.nullpointexception/learningspce5/global.asa, line268"
That line is JavaScript line...
I think it's sort of setting problem not script error.

If so,setting where?
Where first can i check?
Is the url above right for first setting?

The Learning Space 5.0 is running on the following configuration:
NT4 server SP5 + Option pack + Index server + transaction server + FTP server + MDAC 2.7 + JavaVM build 3802.

If your answers's not proper to my question, It may be so helpful to me now
Just give me hint or clue....

Sorry for my poor english

I have exacly the same problem
I'm installing LS 5 on Windows 2000 Advanced Server + Service Pack 2 and MS SQL Server Enterprise 2000. After configuring DNS i can ping my machine by it's name, i can open my default website in IE, but when i'm trying to start LS Student or Administrator interface i'm revcieving java error in line 268 :(. I checked version of java and it it's ok, so what i'm doing wrong ? .

You may want to try using the Ip address of the server instead of the Hostname.

and your definatly making connections from the web server to the DB? Im assuming you must be as you were able to install LS5 which means setting up the dsn's. Usually those errors are some sort of problem with the communication of the webserver to the database.

try to use TCP/IP instead of NPIPE for database connection

Check to see if you have created the required databases during the LS5 installation. That error is normally caused if you had not selected "Create a LearningSpace 5 database,” option during the install (see page 23 of the installation guide). Either you have not created the tables or you do not have the necessary access/connection to the core tables.

Ok we had this one as well...

And we have fixed it.. but it was months ago, and I can't find our Docco!!!

Have you tried installing all the patches.. I reckon this *is* an MDAC thing, so install all the LS5 patches.

As soon as I remember I'll get back to y'all with the answer...

Hi Everyone,

I believe that the problem xavierxd is having is due to the version of MDAC that is being used. If you look at the server requirements, it list as valid MDAC versions as 2.5. Having a later version can cause this same error. For 2000, the version is 2.6 SP1. Here is the link for the requirements of LS5.

If this is your case, then the only way I know of to rectify this is to scratch the server and recreate it. NT wont let you backrev (nice feature!).

If you do have the right version though, it is possible that the database backend wasnt set up properly. If you go to the following address, then go to the Lotus LearningSpace area and then search on line 268 it will list 4 technotes on this problem (depending on your server setup)
Good luck. Let us know if this helped.

Xavier - MDAC 2.7 is definitly your problem. MDAC 2.6 is okay. You will need to goto the MS Dev Site to find out how to uninstall and reinstall the MDAC components. Basically there is a TOOL that identifies each components version number, and the help with that TOOL will tell you how to do it.

Hope this helps.
