I have netscape 7 installed on my redhat 8 box. I tried some sites with java applications but it'll will only prompt me to download the plugin. Even after successfully installing netscape's java machine (seperate installation). the java component still refuses to load.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi,

I'm having a similar (I think) problem - here is a post I wrote under the javascript forum:

In RedHat linux 8.0 I am using mozilla 1.0.1 as a browser and I'm not having much luck running a javascript that I originally wrote in a Windoze XP Pro OS for IE6.0. I have j2se1.4.1 intalled in my linux OS and can successfully compile and run java apps written under linux - but no luck with the java plugin?!?
What am I doing wrong?

I've just written the post so maybe you'll want to keep an eye on that forum also.

Cheers

Hey thanks for the heads-up bud. Will definately do.

HedAche,
Java and JavaScript have nothing at all to do with eachother. Most JavaScripts written for IE use IE specific features and hence will not work in Mozilla/Netscape.
doggammit76,
Did you read the README? I successfully installed the Java plugin in Mozilla 1.0, Mozilla 1.1, Opera 6, Netscape 6 and Netscape 7 by following the instructions in the README. Typing about:plugins in the address bar will show you what plugins are installed, by the way. //Daniel

Sorry, I just relised that I didnt use the netscape jvm for this one. I only just remembered that I installed the Sun jvm.

I followed the instructions to the RPM installation on Sun's download page....I somehow couldn't download the netscape one using the auto plugin-download. it hangs everytime the download reaches 90%.

daniel - thanks for the about:plugins tip. I learned something new today :) Information is free....dont hog it!

I got it working!
(after much scrutiny of the Sun pages!)

Thanks to all who replied. :) Information is free....dont hog it!
