Hey guys,

Trying to decide which beginning java book would be best to start with.

Has anyone read Ivor Horton's Java2 SDK1.4 Edition book?
Or, has anyone read any of Ivor's other books (is he a compentent author?)

Thanks,

jack

I would suggest Java 2 Complete Reference for any beginner in Java.

But what happened Jack?
Suddenly moving to Java...?

heh...what happened was that "my services were no longer needed" by my former employer, and there aren't alot of .NET jobs in my city's market right now; however, there are a tonne of java.

I'm still wavering on whether I should just hold tight on the .NET side of things and look for something, but Java still seems to be the language of choice for the majority of government and large-scale commercial endeavors.
