Last week My W2K registry hiccuped. Various oddities occured - most I was able to fix, but I can't get any Java applets to work. Among other things I tried re-installing IE5.5 (saying replace all the files), I did a 'repair' install of W2K, all after trying to see if I could get some file types to register as Java. No Luck.

Without rebuilding my entire system (aaaargh) can anyone bail me out?

jdmaynard,
In Tools/Internet Options/Advanced is java enabled? Also, there are other settings for this in the Tools/Internet Options/Security screen - where you need to highlight "Internet" and click into custom settings. You may want to reset your custom settings to "medium".

Yup, Java is enabled.
I've also downloaded (again) the latest Java runtime from Microsoft.
The disappointment continues.:-(

Noodling with the registry, I've gotten partway there. Java now works with my Opera Browser. In Frontpage, I can now see the Java applets on the design screens, but not on the preview screens - which are, of course IE.

What I really need are the details on how the Java runtime is normally registered with IE.
