I've installed Insight Manager 7 sp2.3 on my pc how do i add a server?

I want to add a server to the device list But...

If i go to actions - create a device by name is greyed out.

make sure that all the agents are installed on the server and that your snmp service is installed and configured.

then go to the device tab on your console and make sure you have your server ip address range done. then click on "execute discovery now" and you should get back the server which you just installed the agents on.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Looking at the server it does have the snmp installed but i don't think it has the agents. DO i have to install all of insight manager on the server as well?

make sure your snmp service has the same name and that the snmp service is pointing at the CIM Server (where you installed it)

Installnig agents
Put your CIM CD in your server and it autoruns..

You should see that there are a list of agents in the left hand side install these onto your server that like i said execute discovery now and it should find your server..

damn i downloaded insight manager from compaq's website and it does really have that option when you open it! It just has instal msde or CIM

ADVICE

Read the bleeding manual first.

Install the database, Openssh, PSP SNMP setup and then the Insight Manager and start your discovery on the management box first.

Once it can talk and see itself it makes a role out easy.

Why do people buy compaq now HP and not use Insight Manager? Although its not as easy as it used to be configuration looks to be easier once you've got started.
