Hi,

I have a Windows 2000 Professional and this seems to be the closest match to put a quesiton. Here's the story.

Two days ago I had to give my little brother the password to my 2000 Professional account which had the admin. privilages. He logged in and changed my account to user level and he has placed himself as the admin on my machine. Now I'm locked out and he's the boss. What my brother doesn't want to realize is that all my important stuff like JDK, JBuilder, C++ and other development kits are on the PC and I dont want anyone else to use them.

Is there anyway I can change my account to an admin.

Any tricks like password catching programs or stuff like that will do but I dont know any site to download them from.
Please tell me how can I gain access as an admin.

thanks in advance.

How about expaining this to your little brother. If he is so evil that he won't give you access to your stuff then you made a terrible call giving him administrative access. Why didn't you just create a user account?

I'm not going to help you hack a computer. This story sounds fishy. How do I know you didn't steal a laptop or are trying to hack into somone elses computer?

Because I'm using the same system to ask you this bloody question. Well If you dont want to tell me then why bother to even tell me that I'm a thief and a hacker.

With that said...

I too think that the first thing you should do is have him give you back the Admin password. If he does not want to then wait till he logs in and just do it yourself. There are a few tools out there that can help you hack passwords. however I do not think it is apropriate to hand them out freely. They can do a lot of damage if put into the wrong hands. First line of defense, you NEVER give out an admin password unless someone really needs it. That's why Microsoft came up with windows 2000. It's got the ease of use of 98 with the security of NT. Talk to your brother. Glen A. Johnson

pull the hard drive out of the machine and install it in another win2k machine as a secondary harddrive. Then, copy all your files to the new machine.

Or, just beat the crap out of your little brother like I used to do ;)

Thanks a lot guys. I've got the control back. It was my fathers machine before i took over and he had an old admin accout so he came to the rescue.

Thanks anyway.
Take care

my brother used various forms of chineese water torture on me - although we didn't have windows at the time, I still would have told him the password.

I've always renamed the admin account, then create a dummy admin account with limited privelages. That way if somebody thinks they've stumbled accross the admin account, they can't do sqaut. [lol] Glen A. Johnson

This is why Win2k isn't for the masses. Noobs don't understand security. "what does giving my password have to do with security??" haha. Rule #1 you rename the admin account and NEVER USE IT. Rule #2. Learn what "accounts" really are and what htey are used for. #3 never give your password to anyone, create an account. #4 make a backup account iwth admin privs if you "think" you aren't smart enough to not give it out.
