Well I made it 3 yaers with no problems, I guess that's a good run.

I am now having problem after problem with my computer. Some problems are:

1) "Cannot read system file" display at start-up with no additional info.
2) A .vxd file shows up in folders when I click on an app.
3) IE is running in "Compatibility Mode"
4) MSCONFIG won't run at all.
5) REGEDIT won't run at all.

I think this all started when I downloaded a PAC-MAN game from Imesh (P2P app). Norton Utilities isn't fixing the problem. I only have one partition, can I reinstall Windows 98 without losing my data? Would this solve the problem if it was barried in the Registry? I was thinking of adding a partition to my hard drive, transferring the data I still wanted over to the new partition, then formatting the old partition (with Win98 on it) and then reinstall?

I knows it alot of questions but I need alot of help. Thanks.

Sean.

I would recommend the following:

1) Backup all important files
2) Delete all partitions
3) Create two partitions; one for Windows & Program Files, the other for personal and gaming files
4) Format both new drives
5) Install Windows on the first partition
6) Restore backed up files to respective partitions (i.e. personal files to second partition etc)

It sounds like Windows could do with reinstalling...but the thing to watch out for is, do you have all the correct drivers for your computer?. If not, get them and then do the above...

This is what I would recommend doing anyway. If anyone else has any ideas I'd like to hear them also...

To re-install and format look at my FAQ.
