Anyone have any good FAQs put together? We seem to get a lot of the same question that the old guns answer. If we had better title words put together we could just send them (new guns) to that page and it would aready be answered. I know thats what FAQ are for, but if we setup the questions so that its simple "How do I add an agent" "How do I record an annoucement". Anybody...? So many buttons So little time

As much as I agree on your idea on FAQs, and of how much help they can be, I don't agree on your statement on questions 'that easy'. As an engineer and trainer I've been around in Definity-stuff for a while, but if there's one thing I've learned the past years by training 'newbies', it's that there are different solutions for every 'easy' question from which even the most experienced engineers can learn. As you might know, every customer has it's own perception of what a Definity should do and how stuff should or could work, and for that reason, customers (and/or newbies) will sometimes ask stuff even you had never thought about.
The power of forums thus, lies in this mechanism, that everyone can have a look around, read what he or she wants, and participate in threads from which he or she can learn new stuff or in which he or she can share knowledge with others.
Don't get me wrong; FAQs should be around for the basic stuff, and I encourage everyone to write lots and lots of 'em, but don't forget about the power of an open forum. I've seen enough engineers too convinced of their own omnipotence to be able to learn from others. (To all you guys: NOTHING PERSONAL!)

Hope some of you agree with me on this. Much respect to all of you sharing your knowledge...

I agree with phoneman on his 'slow day in Defenity Land'.. Lately not too much high-tec issues around. But then again; mcopini has a good argument on the issue of how even experienced engineers can learn new stuff even from 'new guns' every time.
The only way to learn still is to ask questions and remember:

'1 fool can ask more questions than 10 wise men can answer.'

Just keep the comm-links open and don't feel too techy to answer or even look at seamingly 'simple' questions.

I find my self agreeing with both sides. This site could use a FAQ for the general stuff, but it has also been a valuable source of information to me. I have been a self taught tech out of necessity. I inherited the job when the previous PBX tech who had the formal training quit the company. At the time I only had knowledge of how to move stations. :) I've come a long way and spent a lot of time in the manuals but sometimes there are questions that the manuals are a little vague on and it really helps to have a sounding board to bouce ideas off of and to get help with out Avaya charging you $7000 just to ask. I don't know how many others are out there working with the switch out of a default but that may be why sometimes I ask a beginner's question. Thanks to all again for the help

I agree fully with that. I also had to teach myself, and as such, the first things you tend to learn are what are required at that specific moment. In such a case, something that to a trained tech seems simple can be frustratingly difficult, and something that seems 'techy' becomes just a part of a daily routine. I think it will be difficult to built a FAQ that appeals to both sides. And to be honest, sometimes the quickest way to get an anwer (and hopefully learn from it) is simply to ask. I have spent many a time trawling through FAQs with a problem, but not being able to find a solution simply because I did not know the technical abbreviation.

I agree with you 110%. I too was put in charge of a few sites with Definity systems. With just the knownledge of networking and no budget for training I found myself looking for everything and anything that could help me. I have found different forums but none compare to the knowledge and support this forum offers. The people here are so helpful, that I find it hard to believe a site exsited. I throughly believe that without this site I would have never advance as much as have. I have to thank everyone that helped me and others and one day I hope to be one of those that contributes in helping newbies.

I agree with ( almost ) everything that has been said here, however, I also think that because Definity is so flexible and powerfull that there is not really a right or wrong way to achieve a result. There are many ways to achieve the same thing with a Definity, and while FAQ's are a good source of info, as an earlier poster said, " if you don't really know the question, how can you look for the answer?".
I have worked with Definity for 7 years now, as an installation/Maintainance engineer, and I never cease to be amazed at the different ways people do things, and the creativity that there is out there. The number of requests for the "speak back your extension number" vector which appeared here a couple of weeks ago just underlines this perfectly.
Keep it as it is, in my opinion.
