Is anyone aware of a third party program (I thought I saw it discussed on here previously) that would allow you to change a large number of part numbers. Would this also allow you to copy a large number of part numbers to different part numbers? So, to reiterate, I need to convert about 2000 numbers to a different number (preserve history) and my remaining 6000 numbers will need new part numbers but I need to keep the old part numbers(and their history). We are doing this to track our parts that are RoHS compliant and not RoHS compliant.

I have no idea what RoHS is or means, but Alembic Computer Systems in the Phoenix area has a utility that will do what you are requesting.

Alembic does make a utility that is painfully slow. I have used it and I am not impressed. Depending on your database size, it could take all weekend. In our environment this was not acceptable. My Exact consultant developed a SQL stored procedure to facilitate this. It is really slick and runs very quickly. I use the Andover, MA office.

Grossow,

Do you have a name at the Andover office? I would like to contact them about this utility.

Thank you for all your responses.

We have the version that Peak produced. We converted a similar amount of items. Works very well but is limited to a single user process only. Actually you can use 2 users, but it still a single application run job. You make all your changes in a spreadsheet and then convert that to text file and the program uses that file to do the work. It will change all the history files as well and generate a report showing any problems.
Peak is no longer around but I think if contact Exact New Jersey, they should be able to help you.
