Item Master in 7.6 Progression

All,
PLease tell me some options and work arounds that have been used to create an item master in macola. I am loading in a 235 line item bill of material and getting bottlenecked on having to create all these parts prior to the BOM upload (I use a third party BOM Upload software). Any and all suggestions or feedback would be appreciated.
