Recently i have noted that when i try to open the item maintenance window, it takes a long time to open up. We do have a lot of items ( almost 40K items ). Any window related to inventory takes long to open up. How can I speed this up? Pls advise thanks Hamza

Go To Tools >> Setup >> User Preferences. Click on Auto Complete and click remove entries.

Then either turn Auto Complete off or decrease the maximum number of entries.

I suspect your performance problem is caused by Auto Complete reading the valid entries for your Item Numbers.

David, yes that was it. Awesome. Can you point me to which tables store these autofill values and does it affect all users or each user individually? Pls advise so I can manage these for other users too. Thanks

Performance issues that occur when you open windows

The AutoComplete feature may cause performance issues when you open windows in Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 and in Microsoft Great Plains 8.0. To turn off the AutoComplete feature, follow these steps:1. Click Tools, point to Setup, and then click User Preferences.
2. Click the AutoComplete button.
3. Click to clear the Show AutoComplete Suggestions check box.
4. Click OK.
5. In Windows Explorer, delete the AutoCmpl.dat file and the AutoCmpl.idx file. These files are in the following folder:
Document and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft Business Solutions\Great Plains\dbname\
6. Repeat step 1 through step 5 for each user.

This was great info Dave and slipped below my radar ---

Our users have SIGNIFICANT performance issues when they switch between companies. This really has only come about since going to v9 --- I know this is kinda a thread jack of the Items Maintenance question, but ... ideas?

What version were you on previously?

With v8.0 and v9.0 after login there is a background process which hides all the menu options that a user does not have access to.

Have a look at the File >> Process Monitor option and see if this is the problem.

While this process is running, other background processes or report printing has to wait.
