Hello,
We are using Tivoli IT Director ver. 2.1.2. Until recently, this product was working fine on Windows 2000 (on Dell Optiplex GX150s). We now have some Dell Optiplex GX240 machines and can NOT get Tivoli Director Console to run at all. The agent part will run-- but the Director console will not. Have completely re-loaded Windows 2000, using both Dell and OEM Microsoft Windows 2000. Tivoli seems to load ok (no errors), but can not open the IT Director Program. If watching task manager, program "blips" up briefly, but promptly closes before getting to the sign-on screen. Can anyone help? I know this product is out of date. What is the comparable new product ? Thanks !

Aghhh..... I just found the answer to my own post (well, IBM did). Here is the answer if anyone else was interested.....

Tivoli and Pentium 4 systems

This is a problem with older versions of the Java Just-In-Time compiler. ITD
incorporates Java version 1.1.7B. This older version of Java is not supported
on Pentium 4 systems. This is from the Sun website:

Update: Intel Pentium 4 Processor support for JDK/JRE 1.1.x for Windows is now
available for download. Current JDK/JRE 1.1.x users who want to run their JDK 1.1.x based Java applets or applications on new Pentium 4 systems must upgrade to JDK/JRE 1.1.8_008 for Windows.

Alternatively, Pentium 4 systems are also supported by the Java 2 Platform,
Standard Edition (J2SE) v 1.3.0 and higher.

The product end-of-life has already been announced due to the fact that the
1.1.8_008 version of Java is no longer being run. This is considered a permanent restriction.

The workaround is to turn off the JIT in the registry, or do not run on a
Pentium 4 box.

To turn off JIT, change the value of NoJIT to 1, in the following registry key:

HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Tivoli\Director\CurrentVersion

Turning off the JIT may have a slight impact to no impact on performance. Other than
that the product will function properly.

You may need to stop thw it director service but more likely it will work once the registry change is made.
