I have added a new windows 2003 server on the network and promoted the server to a DC but cannot see the SYSVOL folder on the newly promoted Server though it came up as successfull after the Promo.
What do i need to do to get the SYSVOL folder on the server.
I also need to move the DNS and DHCP off the old server to the new DC.
Any suggestions?.

Review the event logs on the DCs first to check for SYSVOL problems.

Move DHCP;

If your DNS is running as active directory integrated then all you need to do is add the DNS role to your new DC and the zones will replicate to it.

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?

Their are no errors linking to the SYSVOL. Is this normal if you dont install DNS on the DC?.
when I install DNS on the new DC di i need to stop the DNS on the old one?
What do you mean by running as active directory integrated. Do you mean if DNS server is installed on the DC?. If So Yes it is installed on the old DC along with DHCP.

With windows 2000 and 2003 you can integrate DNS and active directory so that DNS zones are replicated as part of normal AD replication;

To check if your DNS zones are AD integrated go to the properties of your DNS zone - under the general tab it will say Type: Active Directory-Integrated.

No, leave it on the old one as well, DNS will then replicate to the new domain controller.

No FRS errors at all in the event logs?? No it's not normal.

How long ago did the new DC come online?? SYSVOL replication may not happen straight away but it should not take too long..

Its was promoted yesterday. Actually!!! the Old DC was upgraded from win 2000 and if i remember correcly the LDAP port was changed during the upgrade and I dont know how to locate the port and then if it has any thing to do with this DC upgrade problem.
(Hope i am noe mixing things up)
I will check the errors again on event viewer.
