All,

OK, I have a major problem (or maybe not?).

My wifehas been on my machine and amended all my services setting - i don't know why, she just did.

Now, when I log in (after about 10 mins), I get no START bar so I can't get into the control panel to get back into the services.

I created a new file (with the command cmd.exe) and then opened mmc.exe and added the snap-in Admin tools. However, although I could open the services from there, the 'extended' list would not list and although I could list the 'standard' services, some would not start and I noticed that some were disabled. I cannot view their properties either.

Now, my question. Is there a way to restore them to their previous or a default setting (maybe with system restore? where is the executable for this please?).

I am logged into the PC with Admin rights so I should be able to amend them, shouldn't I?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would run the system restore command. See if that will fix it for you.

Cheers guys, i think I will test the services page out first.

Black Viper has done an incredible job. Anyone intending to play with the default Services of XP should make this a must read site.

My sainted spouse has no intrest in changing the service entries on my machines. But my 13-year-old hacker?
sigh

Install and use ERUNT:
Best wishes,
