ok operating on Windows Server 2003 standard edition service pack 2
have been working for months with Dell and symantec over this. I had a bad tape drive so they sent me a replacement and since then Backupex wont detect it correctly. it goes offline continuely and i have the symantec drivers and have reinstalled , uninstalled numerous times.
here is one of the errors i get mostly:
Erase Library 01104 -- The job failed with the following error: A tape read/write error has occurred. This is usually caused by dirty read/write heads in the tape drive. Clean the tape drive, and then try the job again. If the problem persists, try a different tape. You may also need to check for problems with cables, termination, or other hardware issues.

Ah yes....windows 2003. For the read/write issue, make sure you are using a good cleaning tape. They are only good for 50 loads. As for the going offline constantly..... you may need to turn off the TUR (test unit ready) in the windows operating system. This function constantly "pings" the drive while it is trying to run and causes all kinds of headaches. Check this out: If the link doesn't work, just google "windows 2003 test unit ready fix" I have seen this fix a lot of issues!!!
