Can't connect to any ISP. The username / password is sent & returned Ok as get 2 computers is sys tray.

But when trying to use Outlook Express or IE 6 not data is sent forward to ISP.

I have :-

1) re-loaded Win 98 SE 4 times

2) installed external modem

3) uninstall - control panel - network - Dial Adapter.

4) uninstalled control panel - Windows Setup - Communications

5) Start- RUN - inetwiz - reinstalled Dial Adapter,TCP , Family Login

6) extracted winsock.dll & wsock32.dll

7) created new dial up

8) uninstalled Zonealarm ( firewall ) & ran Adaware to check for spyware.

I have used my laptop & able to connect to his ISP.

Do you have any suggestions ?

You don't say anything about having created a user profile in Outlook, or having the correct names for the ISP's POP3 and SMTP servers. You have to perform these operations, if you haven't. Newposter

well, i see you have done alot!!! let me see.......... last time i had this happen a customer brought thier computer in to me because of the same problem. doing my normal troubleshooting i completed the tasks that you did to no avail. after fooling with it awhile and installing different modems in different PCI slot ect i finally fixed it by installing updated drivers for his modem.

is this what yours does?
dails and gets connected with no problem.
connects at good speeds.
OE gives "server cannot be found" errors.
IE gives Page cannot be displayed" and "cannot be found".
after connecting you can go to your DOS prompt and not be able to ping a damn thing. except 127.0.0.1

have you tried any hyperterminal connections/testing? "Jack of all trades. Master of none."

..... based on what? Any error messages?

Chris.

Great to see feedback , thanks.

"I have used my laptop & able to connect to his ISP. "
This was a working PC
I have created outlook express profile etc
Outlook message is basically not able to get access to host.
IE - site not available.

I have noticed the transmit light flick but no reply from ISP. Note different ISP's.

I don't know what the procedure to " ping " to test it I guess.

you can go to start>run>type command>hit enter then at the promp type "ping or any other non-firewalled IP address. while you're there ping 127.0.0.1 to see if your tcp/ip is working properly. "Jack of all trades. Master of none."

Thanks for that info.
I shall try it out in 2 days time as my PC has gone to a friend to check out.

What do I do if it fails TCP/IP ( ping ) test ?

reinstall tcp/ip through network properties. "Jack of all trades. Master of none."

The latest is my friend could not solve it , he did not get to test the ping function. Reformatting & reloading Windows did it.

Thanks to those persons replying above.
