I want some information on ISDN 'S-' and 'U-interfaces'. I am interested in the content ( how to interpret and its purpose) of the data at these interfaces. In addition to 2B+D, WHAT ELSE is transmittted at these interfaces and for what purpose. Is this ADDITIONAL information generated at
the subscriber instrument or is it generated at NT. Similarly in the other direction, is the addtional data absorbed and processed by NT or does it reach the subscriber instrument.

What I know is -- at the S-interface the data rate is 192-Kbps, where as at U-interface it is 160-Kbps. What is happening to the additional 32-kbps data between S and U interfaces. Is this 32-kbps absorbed and processed by
NT or ignored by NT?

Uk0 (160) = 2B/D (144) + Sync (12) + Maintenance (4)
S0 (192) = 2B/D (144) + Sync (48)
