Friend running Win98SE on a single PC with Modem connection, has had a virus removed and now the ISDN Configuration Wizard loads at startup with a message that no ISDN devices found etc. Install and run the ISDN Config Wizard again. I have searched for cfgwiz32.exe and although it exists in the Windows/System folder I cannot find where it is being loaded from. There is nothing in MSCONFIG or STARTUP in the Start Menu and I can't find anything in the Registry.
I have searched the Net without a clue although there are 2 references within Tek Tips but not the answer I need.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated to this annoying happening
Cheers Rosco

Hi Rosco,
Firstly it would have been helpful to post the links on tek-tips your are referring to.

If you have looked through all the STARTUP folders and deleted all the tempory files and in the \windows\temp directory etc. try renaming cfgwiz32.exe to cfgwiz32.old and see what happens.

Regards.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes it would have been helpful to post the 2 links but I did not record them after seeing that they were not of help to me!
Re, the renaming to "old", been there, and then Windows does a search to find the file, which takes much longer than just cancelling out the ISDN Window. Maybe I should get my friend to update to XP and hope the message goes away.
Thanks for you comments

Have you looked in the add/remove programmes to see if there is anything that shouldn't be there.

Also, try the Add New Hardware option to see if the system has got some item attached to it that needs "sorting out" that you are unaware of.

Regards.

check your taskmanager.. had a dos window that loaded everytime with windows and for the life in me could not find it.... ended up being in the taskmanager schedualed to load at startup

(and this will not show up in msconfig)
also check autoexec.bat and config.sys if it is not there

Don't know if you fixed this yet... I had this problem a while back and it seem to me it was in my network neigbor hood. Try removing TCP/IP. I'll look at my notes Monday and seeif I can remeber more Monday

Thanks icon58, and No, the problem still exists despite some good ideas. Additional info would be appreciated.

In addition to Win.ini and System.ini have you checked AutoExec.bat. Any of these could cause the problem.
