Dear Forum Members,

I am using NNM 6.10 on Sun Solaris.

On a lot off Cisco Routers we are using ISDN as backup for the Serial line. How can I get notified if ISDN changes from Backup mode to active?

And in General: How do I monitor ISDN lines?

If someone can give me the answers.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Xelha

Hi there Xelha, no matter the kind of line/interface you have, if you have configured properly the network device, with:
SNMP trap destination = IP of your NNM
SNMP ro community
SNMP source address = ideally a loopback interface

Usually the link up/down traps, are part of a generic MIB tree that comes as a default, you should have this MIB already in use.

You should be getting the messages for link up and link down as traps from the router.
Also, NNM is going to identify the interface as in "stand by" mode for ISDN, and should notify you, when it becomes active.

Keep in mind that, if you don't have set a loopback interface as source SNMP address, chances are that you are not goint to receive any traps, since the serial interface is going to be down, you may use an ethernet interface or loopback.

Can you try to force a failure and watch if you receive anything at all from that device?Have you tried this before?
How did it go?

Hope this helps, regards,
