I need my European brothers. I'm in the US.

I'm trying to get a dual E1 card to register as an E1 card in an Avaya IP406v2.

We are trying to do some testing with E1 here in the US, but for the life of me the IP406v2 won't register the dual card as E1.

This is what I have:

1. IP406v2
2. Dual E1 card in Slot A
3. R4.2(23) - don't want to pay to upgrade so I can merely test

Here is what I programmed:
1. System tab>Locale: United Kingdom (UK English)
2. I have even tried going to System tab>Telephony>and have changed the 'Compounding Law' switch and line type to 'A Law' - trunks are up but in Manager it still registers as a PRI (23 channels).

How do you European guys get the T1 E1 cards to actually register as E1 in the switch?

A T1 and E1 are different cards.
Only the new universal cards for the IP500's are able to do this.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

The card we purchased is a dual E1 card, at least that is what it says on the packaging.

try changing the sytem locale to UK (or similar)
I believe we had sililar issues in the past when a batch off IPO's configured themselves as US Units

I Dont think you will ba able to have E! in an IPO configued for USA*

*I could very easily be wrong aboyut this, good luck

It is indeed the system locale that dictates T1/E1. Even on a 500 v2 on R9 I can't choose E1 or T1 without changing locale :)

Thanks for all your help guys.

I have changed the System Locale to Australian (UK English), Italian, etc (rebooted the IP Office) and nothing seems to change the status of the dual PRI card to dual E1.

I'm at a loss.

What do you want to test so that you need a E1?

Try to right click on the PRI Line -> Change Universal PRI Card Line Type in the config.

just tried changing an E1 to a T1 using the config wizard & could not do it one the cfg has been created, try the following

remove the card
change the locale (reboot)
re-install the card

if that does not get you around the issue then you are probably fried

IPGuru, thanks for the suggestions.

I followed your instructions:
1. Powered down
2. Removed Dual E1 card
3. Powered back up
4. In Monitor, still shows 'System Local>default'

Therefore, I decided to remove IP Office Admin Suite entirely and reload Manager to match IP Office release 4.2(23).

Once Manager started talking to the switch, the System Locale changed to what I put it at (Spanish>ESP).

At least, the System Locale is now changed.

However, it still shows as a dual PRI.

I tried jcosgrove's suggestion. It didn't work.

I blew the card away from the config, rebooted, still shows as a dual PRI.

Crazy, right?

I'm about fried and tired of consuming your time.

Thanks all.

If I figure it out, I'll post the answer(s).

It will show dual PRI, it's just the type of PRI that should change, i.e to ETSI, do you mean it still shows as T1? :)

Dont worry about "Wasting our Time"
These are the sort of unusual conditions we like to sink our teeth into & keep following because hopefully we learn somthing new from them.

If it was not for this type of post I suspect many of the MVP's would have stopped visiting long ago.

The only thing I can think of is the a law and ulaw on the right top of the system ten.
This should change with the locale.
But it could be that the chassis itself is a ulaw system.
I cannot remember if they where sold in a alaw and ulaw version.

Hope this is not too late
I Just found this in the Documents

• The required mode can be selected within IP Office Manager by right-clicking on the line icon and selecting Change Universal PRI Card Line Type and then selecting the required line type.

Hope it helps
