Is view CS0120 compatible with all ACCPAC databases?

Does anyone know whether the "SQL Query" view (CS0120) is supported for all databases that ACCPAC runs on?

I very much need to do a join, but I did not see any reference to regular views having the ability to do this.
The code is quite pitiful without it...

The docs I've seen appear to state that CS0120 is available with some version (I think 5.5 or 5.6) but compatibility
with all db forms is not stated (or even mentioned).

Thanks
Jon

Only in newer versions, not the older ones - I can't remember when CS0120 was introduced but checking the AOM of the different versions will give you a clue.
To be technically correct CS0120 is supported on all databases (Pervasive, MS SQL, Oracle, DB2) that Accpac run on - but not in all versions.

Hello, Ettienne,

Thanks so much for this info and insight. We do have a minimum version requirement for
use of our software, and I will find out what version CS0120 was offered.

Thanks again
Jon

It is available for all database platforms. And joins in Pervasive suck, IMHO. But you could query the database type and run a different query against the Pervasive database as required. It was added for 5.5. If you use functions, use the ODBC variants, so they will work on all the databases. If does have problems working with string functions (maybe I should try the ODBC versions). Sometimes instead of a string I get back an array of char.

Hi, Djang,

Thanks very much for this insight. For now, since we can't suddenly pull the plug on users of 5.x lower than 5.5,
I'm going to just use the standard single-table interface, and optimize later in the process.

(I had been wondering how joins might run in Pervasive, expecting the worst. You have confirmed that.
I have also found the Accpac View object not easy to work with except for use in the most elementary ways, cell by cell.)

Thanks again
Jon

A couple of notes: If you're reading data, go ahead and use ODBC/ADO connections. Then you can use the power of the database engine. If you're stuck with using Accpac views, keep in mind that setting up a read only dbLink will allow you to read data much faster. With that being said, CS0120 doesn't work with read only dbLinks.
