Is this a security thing?

I've got a .swf embedded in a webpage that loads movies into it according to the users choice.

If the movies I load are on the same server as the original webpage everything is fine.....

BUT if I load a movie from another domain I do not seem to be able to control the loaded movie. Nor can I access varibles inside it.

Does anyone know what's going on?... and if so, is there a work around?

(As a rather confusing extra, while I'm testing things from home (with Test Movie) I can load movies from anywhere and it all works fine! It's only once it's been posted up onto the website that I lose control....)

It is a security thing - you can only load movies and data from addresses within the same subdomain. However there are workarounds via remoting and web services and MX2004 has loosened up these restrictions somewhat apparently with an 'allowed' URL feature (also in MX but undocumented). Try here for detail:

Thanks for that. It looks like I'm going to have to do a bit of homework here!

What I find odd is that the 'foreign' movies do actually load up, but I just have no control over them - they run wild! It's a start at least.

Well, if I get anywhere useful I'll post up some more.

Thanks again for your response...
