Hi:

I want to know if the followin is a reserved IP address becouse is the IP addressing that im using in my LAN, is this recomendend?

IP: 172.16.8.0
Mask: 255.255.248.0

172.16.8.0 is considered a private IP address. And that netmask would appear to give you everything from 172.16.8.1 through 172.16.8.254, which are all private IPs.

172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 are private.

Dan

Correction...the mask gives you everything from 172.16.8.x to 172.16.15.x )

You are correct, sir. I thought that was what I wrote, but I guess that's why you're supposed to preview your posts first! Thanks for the correction.

What happen if i use 172.16.24.0 and mask 255.255.248.0?? Thanks

That should be fine. What are you trying to accomplish?

I see a LAN in my new company that use that IP addressing and need to know if thats right, i read in this thread that my Mask Address gives me 172.16.8.x to 172.16.15.x its correct that i use 172.16.24.x??
