Is there a way to keep photos moving with associated text in Pub 2000? 1

I am creating a directory of 553 entries (a Class Directory as part of my 50th high-school reunion book) that will probably end up as 150 - 200 pages (linked frames). Is there a way to make the one or two photos associated with an entry (<50 to 1000 or more characters of text) move along with the text as text is added or deleted above (previous to) it in the document? Without this capability, I am forced to add the photos last and not make any changes once the photos are added (unless the change results in no net change in lines of text) because the work involved with moving all of the photos manually would be too extensive.

Have you tried grouping the text and the photo? It's been years since I've had Pub 2000 installed on a system but I'm sure you can do that. (Your file size must be huge! Pub 2000 files are notorious for that.)

Thank you for suggesting grouping, but that would not solve the problem. For example, if the photo is associated with the bio of John Jones, then I would want it to stay below that name. But the frame in which John Jones bio appears may change as additional text and photos are added earlier in the alphabet. Grouping is of objects. What I need to group is an object to a text string, which itself must not be grouped because, as I said, it (and everything in the entire document following it) must be able to move from one text frame to to the next (or previous) as the document is being constructed.

This is such an obvious need of anyone creating a directory of any type that it is astonishing that it is not found in Publisher 2000. I have found no need to "upgrade" because I have been able to easily create just about every kind of document with P2000 exception of the type about which this inquiry has been made.

Have you tried putting each Bio entry in its own text box, and then putting the photo in the same text box ?

Thank you. Your suggestion would keep the bio entry and its associated photo together, but frames do not flow. This means that if one frame needed to grow in size because of a large submitted bio, I would have to manually move potentially many (e.g., hundreds of) subsequent text frames to accommodate it. Keep in mind that I am producing a book, with pages of identical finite size.

Our high school class had it's 50th anniversary last year, and one of our number produced a reunion book like you're working on. He simply allowed one page per person - some were sparse, some were dense. As a delightful touch, he contacted all the instructors who were still alive, and added a page and bio on them too. A few of them made the reunion event! Our of a class of 199, there were about 80 grad entries submitted, and a dozen or so instructors...
A touch you might be considering - reunion badges, with the name and the yearbook photo, because some of us have changed, a lot!
the reunion book included the current photo, of course.

Like I said, it's been a while since I used Pub 2000, but havwe you looked into doing a catalog merge? I'm not sure if that was available in that version.

I beleive that Catalog Merge was introduced in P2003, but I'm not sure how it works. It certainly should address my problem. but who knows whether it does. I have P2000.

You could download the trial version of Publisher 2010 for your project. ;-)

I've found the solution for Publisher 2007 - it may work for 2000 as well.

Right-click the picture, format picture, layout tab, Object Position: inline.
Experiment with left, right and Move object with text.

I got this info from
I've been having similar problems to you: I'm designing a teachers' lesson book - there are small versions of the visual aids to show the teachers where in the story to use them. And every time I added text I had the same problem as you. I've been fighting with publisher for ages - the 'help' function is so useless! I was <i>very</i> glad to find the solution!

Thank you, but unfortunately Publisher 2000 does not offer similar functionality when right-clicking pictures. The source you provided (via link) may be useful in the future.
