Is there a way to hijack or force unreserve a file?

We are working on a shared document in LiveLink. Our users use the "edit" command to reserve and edit a document and then are supposed to "finish edit". When a user forgets to do this, it leaves the file reserved.

Is there any way for either a normal user or an administrator type to force unreserve that file (i.e. hijack it)? In Rational ClearCase there is a way to do this, I was hoping there'd be the same for LiveLink.

If not, how have you all handled this situation? We are in different time zones so we have to wait several hours before being able to communicate with the person directly.

One idea I had is to make a new copy of the file then leave it to the person who left it reserved to have to merge their changes into the new copy. However, this is not ideal.

Do you not have the UNRESERVE option in the function menu of that document ?

Hi Greg,

No I do not have this option. I am neither the person who has it checked out, nor am I a LiveLink administrator, just a "normal user". I believe that our LiveLink administrator also cannot unreserve, but I can't vouch for her as I don't know if she has checked for that option.

The user who does have it checked out can unreserve or finish edit.

A livelink user with System administrtaion privileges can unreserve an item if blocked by a user.Also Livelink allows reserve /unreserve for a group too although personally I get several calls as SysAdmin to unlock stuff.

If sysadminster stuff is not an option aybe somebody can write you a small lapi app,which behind the scenes logs in as 'Admin and does a impersonate user of the culprit...
