Hello!

This is for the Avaya IP Office Embedded Mail- version 9.1 (?)
The customer would just like their name to play instead of a whole greeting.
We have already tried recording the name in the "name" section, and then deleting the greeting entirely- that did not work.
We also unassigned the mailbox and then re-assigned it- recorded only the name- and that did not work either.

I am having trouble finding useful information about this online, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

That will definitely be our back up plan if we cant get this to work [smile]

Just tested- making sure the name recording was over 3 seconds long- still no luck [sad]

Thank you for the suggestion though!

No, I meant for the greeting, but if you aren't using the greeting why not just do it that way? I don't understand :)

Amriddle is spot on, if you dont have a greeting and just want it to play the users name, record the users name AS the greeting. Simple solutions are usually the best solutions.

With the LVM Greeting Utility you can convert a wav file to a greeting and this does not have the three seconds limit.
BUT, If i was a caller and I hear only a name and (maybe) a beep my first thought would be WTF and disconnect, so I think this is just another plain stupid demand of a customer with lack of intellegence not thinking about the impact of his/her request.
If I was you I would say it just isnt possible, period. I would not even consider to give it a second thought.

* for Intigrant for again highlighting that as professionals we sometimes have a duty to explain to customers that they are being stupid.

why they find "John Smith Beep" to be preferable to "thank you for calling john smith I am away form my desk or on the phone, pleae leave a message I I will call you back on my return"* is beyond me.

the 1st option is not only unprofessional to a caller it sounds down right rude!

*or some other POLITE message

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

I wonder if they are trying to emulate the greeting in Partner or Merlin Messaging. You only need to record your name and the greeting comes out as "NAME" is not available. Please leave a message at the tone. I think that works in embedded set as Intuity mode.

Intuity mode...

The guy that invented the intuity mode must have hated his callers..

@ the phone lady- that is exactly what they are trying to do!

I am just going to to tell the customer that it cannot be done like that anymore.
It's not that hard to record a greeting....

Thank you for the help everyone! [bigsmile]

You got the solution, Intuity mode and just have the name recorded without a personal greeting.

I love Intuity mode :)

just to open a can of worms here with some guys. It is Friday night and I am posting on Tek-Tips so this is my idea of fun.
