I'm haveing a real problem, is there a way to link an as400 file to an excel workbook? I know you can link a table in acess. If not is there a way to automate a transfer of an excel workbook to the as400. I'm new on a system that runs in 36 mode and there are no codeing examples on anything. Right now I'm manually converting the workbook csv and ftping it to myself.

Hi as400girl,
You probably know there is an Excel add-on that gives you the ability to bring an AS/400 file into Excel and vv. Each field in the AS/400 file is placed in it's own Column within the Excel spreadsheet.
If you have Client/Access installed you can just go to Tools>Addin>Browse then choose Program files>IBM Client Access>Shared and you will find the add-in CWBTFXLA.DLL.

Hi yes, I 2 problems with that way.
1 it's automatic
2 and this is weird it doesn't work for me. I can get data from the as400 with the configured add in, but when I click on the transfer to as400 it tell me that my version of excel doesn't support this feature. I further tells me that I need a version of excel 97 office 97 or higher. Now I have excel 2002, but I don't have office my pc has something called office tools but no office just excel, word, publisher, outlook and this office tools thing.

Any suggestions?

Hi,
About PC stuff, I don't know if you need some more things for the upload to work. IMHO it should work with excel 2002 but maybe I miss something... You could maybe try out to install again from the iSeries C/A menu>Selective Setup client access option ?
I know another method consisting in a VBA macro to include in your excel sheet on the client side and a stored procedure on the server (AS400) side that I think you can altogether easily automate. If interested, let me know and I'll publish an example right here.
