I've noticed that after disabling all autoplay options in the CD-Rom properties, XP will still auto open a cd that contains files. This is really annoying when installing programs that are more than 1 cd. Is there a way to stop it all together?

Start/Run/Gpedit.msc

Computer Configuration
Administrative Templates
System

Check your settings in the right pane, Turn Off Autoplay (double click).

You could try regedit to modify HKCU\software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutoRun key

Change the value from 145 (91 hex) to 181 (b5 hex)

TWeakUI downloadable from the Microsft website (part of the XP POwer tools). Has a feature where you can customise which drives can autoplay and what the options are if auto play is allowed.

Any feed back is appreciated.

I used TweakUi before but it for some reason changed all my icons to 256 color Win2k looking icons for some reason. Kinda weary about messing with it again.

You do know you can hold down the left Ctrl key when inserting a CD to stop all autoplay?

Can you not also hold down the left shift key? I never knew about the Ctrl key option to disable autorun, but I always use the shift key.

Whenever I've tried using the left-shift key method (albeit was with Win98), sure Autorun wouldn't start, and I'd have it held down for like 10 seconds, then the moment I released the key, Autorun started right up! Probably different with XP, but I just disable autorun using tweakui.
