I have a 4000-M, and it won't load an IOS that is about 6,500,000 compressed. It will load one about 6,100,000. So this makes me curious, is there a scientific way (the more complicated but accurate the better !) to calculate the DRAM required ? feature Navigator is but of little use. If I were CIO of cisco I'd have the whole thing trashed and start over.
I have created several text files with the decompressing info (# marks) and have started to do calculations, but also one needs to remember that the IOS divides up mem in different areas, so that means that an IOS that decompresses physically from 6,000,000 to let's say 12,000,000 bytes doesn't mean it will fit in 16MB due to stack areas, heaps, etc.
