I have a Peavey stage microphone- Was using it with an 1/4 - 1/8" converter, but the weight of it seems to have broken the input on the soundcard (Diamond Monster MX300). Are there any inexpensive soundcards that can take a 1/4" plug directly? Or maybe other viable alternatives?

yea, the sound blaster live! Platinum, which comes with a live!Drive, has those big stereo inputs in the front, or you can just buy the Live!Drive itself if you already have like a SBLive! Value or one of the other Live!s

or a very cheap alternative would be to purchase a 1/8" extension cord. If you used an extension from the card and plugged the adapter and mic into the extension cord, then the weight of the apparatus would no longer be hanging on the sound card jack. The extension would only need to be something like a foot or less long...just a possible alternative =)
