Hi everyone,

I have several applications that are used by several hundred users and I have been sending out new version as and when they are available. At the beginning it was fine, not any more.

I have seen other software that checks whether there is a new version available and lets the user download it if he/she wishes, leaving me more time to better the apps I write and save my poor fingers and hours of pains taking efforts sending out emails with the updates.

I would like to add this self checking and download feature in my next version.

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

regards
Stephen

The easiest way, I think, is to have the program pass its version string to a webpage. This webpage could then check to see if it's the latest and give the user a download link if there's a newer version.

Many thanks Jeff,

The only problem is I have never needed to use my apps to use the internet and wouldn't know where to start, I am selftaught and get my resources by looking at samples I find on the internet.

I wish I had someone close by so I could get some first hand tuition when needed, as they say being shown is by far better than reading as you could miss understand what is being read.

The way I understand it, on running the app it could look at an ini file seeing what version the user had, then go to my web site looking at the ini file there and giving the user the option to download if the version is newer.

Where do I start is my question now!

kindest regards
Stephen

kindest regards
