Hello,
I have created a report that prompts the user to pick from either a site number list or a location name list to limit
the search.
When the report is run (from ePortfolio), the lists of
choices are incomplete, although I included the entire
list(s) when I created the parameters.
Example:
There are 30 site numbers in the database.
All 30 are listed as choices when the parameter is created.
When the report is run, only 15 appear on the pick list.
Same thing happens with location name list.
I was told that there was a limit to how many choices there
can be (to eliminate having to choose from potentially
hundreds). But I was also told that there is a way
to change this limit.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
I am using Crystal Reports v. 9.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
rorymo

When you say "Only 15 appear on the pick list", what does that mean? Is the report not showing all the items?

If this is the case, please post your record selection formula. If this is not the case, please indicate what you mean.

Hi,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
What is happening is that not all of the items on the list
show up (but only when viewed thru ePortfolio).
Late yesterday afternoon, I found out that this is a bug
in Crystal Enterprise 9. Only the first 50 values in the list will be displayed.
It is documented in Article c2013093 published on 12/24/03.
Evidently there is no fix (yet) and no workaround.
I found this on the Crystal Care Technical Support page:
I tried to create a workaround by using a text
file for the list, but that opens up a whole new can of worms,
as far as what the selections default to, plus the list would have to be constantly maintained.
If you have any other ideas, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks again,
rorymo

I have encountered the same problem. It is a real pain. Do you have any news yet on any fix which may be available?

Svenos,
I haven't heard of anything.
What I did was eliminate the drop down list altogether,
and group by site, then location name.
This isn't much of a workaround, but it's the best I
could come up with right now.
At any rate, the users were happy with it.
Thanks,
rorymo

OK thanks rorymo,
I have eliminated drop down list as well. I now make the user type in their required criteria instead. The problem here is that it leaves room for user error ie. the user may miss spell their criteria, and for them to presume the report is either broken or not results matched what they were looking for.

It isn't ideal, but like you said, it works.

Thanks
Svenos

Since you can display what the user entered in the parameter(s), any errors should be evident.

Absolutely. Though users more often than not reach for the phone rather actually examine why no results appear.
