For the last few days, I have been unable to access Internet via my Linksys 54G router. No changes in setup were made by me. Can access internet by connecting any PC directly to the Motorola cable modem.

I seem to remember seeing this issue discussed here while I was troubleshooting the WIN98 issue I posted a few weeks back.

My question, has this scenario been documented with remedies, possibly a FAQ somewhere?

Thanks.

Have you tried turning the router off for a few minutes?

Could you, connected to the router, do an ipconfig /all and post the results here?

Rebooted it, and cable modem, numerous times. Just powered up router after having it off for 3 days, rebooted modem, connected all, no change, ran ipconfig from PC I installed router from, the results;

connection-specific DNS suffix: <blank>
IP address : 192.168.1.100
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Default gateway : 192.168.1.1

I now see you asked for ipconfig/all - I run that next.

Just reconnected router/modem to run ipconfig/all, and I'll be damned, but all WIM XP and WIN2000 notebook work. I see from previous posts that this is not unusual behaviour, and that I may need to put some sort of switch between router and modem. Foolio 12 posted some links, guess it's time to start researching this.

don't take my advice as good advice...just so you know, nothing I've tried has worked yet. bcastner knows what he's talking about.

For cable modems the process should be:

Turn on cable modem. Let it stabilize.
Turn on router. Let it stabilize.
Turn on computers.

You might consider leaving the cable modem and router on 24/7. They draw little power, and were built with an always on requirement in mind.

As you have noticed, the router does not even have a power switch.
