i have heard of browser hijacker. but is there such a thing as a chat client hijacker too? my browser is not working. and i can't get mirc to connect to any irc network.

It is possible.

Download hijack this from the link below.

Post your results. Then, we will see what's up. After that, we may try the following in addition to any removal of HJT log entries that are bad.

....

Webroot Spysweeper 14 day Trial

Update the defs and do a sweep.

I would hit it with this as well:

Update the definitions and then do a full system scan.

Hope this helps,

Erik

thanks linny! you're very kind! :)
i have to download these and try them tonight. is irclean going to clean up mirc? or kill virus attached to mirc?
:)

I only have the same information for you that is available on the website, namely - "IRClean is a 100% free, standalone, compact (32kb total download), and easy-to-use yet very powerful anti-worm system designed to specifically combat worms that target or use IRC chat networks to propagate. It has been released into the public domain for free to help stem the growing tide of IRC-propagating worms.

MIRClean integrates IRClean within MIRC giving you automatic scanning of downloaded files and various other automatic abilities. . Created by Nicholas Hillebran"

Removing every piece of malware is not something that one program really achieves on its own, it is a case of multi-pronged attack using several reputable programs designed for malware removal.

I suspect, (but could be wrong) maybe you have been surfing the Internet as an Administrative user rather as a Limited user. This (if it applies), is not a very safe practice.

kewl!
mirclean is what i need then.
thanks so much. i will download that.
:)
i know, i have admin account. but if i have limited account, would it stop viruses from coming in?

maybe i should change my admin to limited. but i just visit some websites and mirc. i've never had any problems with mirc. it must be some websites.

A limited account by its very nature is limited in what it can change on your machine. The status of a user doesn't in itself prevent you downloading malware, but what it does do is to prevent mass damage to important parts of the system which are only accessible to Administrators should you catch a load of malware.

While surfing as a limited user this procedure is always available to you should you wish to change access rights.
