Hello,

Is the UCA client required for MiVoice for Lync to function? I ask since the brochure on Mitel's website doesn't state that the UCA client is required to make MiVoice for Lync work.

Now, I am being told that the UCA solution is required to make MiVoice for Lync to work.

Your feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Ron

From what I can determine, MiVoice for Lync requires UCA. The full UCA client is hidden to be replaced by a small tool bar at the bottom of the Lync client. This tool bar allows you access the full Mitel feature set from within the lync client. It also interfaces prescence information into Lync i.e if you pick up your desk phone and make a call, your Lync status shows busy. When you receive a call you see a small UCA window that allows you the normal foward, transfer or hold features. Dialing to a contact can be done via Lync or outlook contacts.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

I am about to trial MiVoice for Lync according to mitel you do not need the full UCA client. I had a product demo and according to them Mivoice plugin is independent to UCA even though it looks remarkably similar. I suspected that the plugin had been ported from UCA code. MiVoice is licensed again separately from UCA on the MAS.

Once I've implemented the trial, I'll let you know if it’s as shit as UCA.

Regards,

Rob

Thanks Rob. I look forward to your feedback. If you try it in VDI, it would be great to know how it went as well.

Yes, look forward to the feedback but think what they meant is the plug-in is independant of the UCA client but it must still be linked to UCA server for call control. I say that becasue from what I saw you can still pick the device you use to make the call ( the deskphone, softphone or mobile client ), can setup forwarding or DND and dial out of the lync chat client. That is all UCA functionality.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.
