As near as I can figure, SQL Server seems to be an NT application, right? Can't be deployed on Win98?

"Microsoft SQL Server is a scalable, high performance relational database management system for Windows NT Server-based systems" words from Microsoft Windows Architecture Training (Microsoft Press)

In other words you have to run the database on a NT-server!! The clients can be Windows based (95, 98, NT, etc.)

Hi

Sql Server is a back office product of Microsoft which can run on Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows NT Terminal Server and Windows 2000. You cannot install SQL server in 95 or 98. You can install only sql clients in 95 and 98.

When they say Windows NT, it has lot of backoffice products which are very much required for the enterprises. It gives a complete set of sofwares for various applications in the enterprise like SQL Server (Database Management System), Proxy Server (Internet), MS-Exchange (Mail Server), IIS (Web Server) and so on. That why sql server can run only in the servers.

Hope this helps you

Thanx, that's what I thought. I was hoping to get some hands-on experience with SQL server, but I see it's a bigger bear than I first anticipated. I would have to get WinNT, and SQL Server, then config a dual-boot thingy....a bit much for me at this time.
Thanx....C.R.:-I

Oke there is a way out, it looks like you need a RDBMS.
Try interbase from borland, it is free and I am running Interbase 5.O on a Win95 workstation. If you have a Pentium with 16-32 MB you can run it on it. S. van Els
