Is Sharepoint a real Document Management System? 1

Hello,

I'm now evaluating Sharepoint... .

I know two organizations that changed from Documentum to Sharepoint.

My question: Is Sharepoint a real Document Management System like Documentum or Cyco Automanager Meridian or a collaborative portal/platform ?

It is NOT a document management system, Collaborative Platform is the correct term as you wrote it yourself.

but it can be leveraged as a doc management system, but the product isn't designed for this. It all depends on the requirements the organisation has....
Sometimes Sharepoint works well for what an organisation has as needs for document managing (storage, search, retention etc...)
