Hi guys,
I would ask you for opinion regarding one point:
1/My WinManager 6, in Cleaning option found I can delete next files from my XP SP3, without risk:
-System Backup files..........abt 36 MB
-Backup DLL files.............." 362 MB
-Backup Drivers................" 73 MB
-System files...................." 40 MB
-Total abt ..................... 511 MB
as I have shortage of free area in Partition C:\ , do you think is it safe to delete a/m files , or not.

before you do, i would recommend you make a slipstream disc of your system.

search the forums for directions on how to do this.

Bronan, take a deep breath, crack your knuckles, and repeat what you want in a clear manner...

As I am afraid I do not follow what you are trying to ask...

in case you are trying to clean out the C drive, try CCleaner and uninstall programs that you don't use or can live without...

Not too sure what files you program is saying you can safely delete, maybe it is suggesting you remove old ServicePack folders or something? This article will explain further about what is safe to remove.

I second CCcleaner. Can rip about 600mb from a system the first time it's used.

Never had a problem with it...

Most people spend their time on the "urgent" rather than on the "important."

I'm using CCcleaner regularelly.
What I am asking you is it safe to remove -delete a/m folders and files from my XP SP3 OS ( Partition C:\)
Those folders and files are mentioned afeter use of WinManager 6.0 -Cleaning tool , in aim to make free place on HD-Partition C:\.
I hope this is clear now.
@linney,
Found in your tread possibility to remove previous installed XP SP2, wonder this shouls be done when installed sleaptreemed XP SP3 CD, or I am wrong.
Also to exclude hibernation- in this case I'll have abt 500 MB more of free space on HD.

Personally, I wouldn't rely on Winmanager (whatever that may be) to tell me what to delete or not, especially given the cheapness of HDD storage these days.

System Backup files, Backup DLL files, Backup Drivers, System files - I would tend to keep them all.

It seems that perhaps the problem that you have posted here is not actually the root problem.

Why do you need to create space on your C drive / What are you trying to achieve by creating space on your C Drive / How do the problems that you are having manifest themselves?

Perhaps if you answer the above, we could (possibly) come up with a better solution than attempting to regain space on your C drive :)

IF winmanager tells you where these files are located, I would burn them to a cd, just to be on the safe side. Then delete them from your hard drive. Then run chkdsk and do a defrag.

I ask this question because I was not shure if deleting a/m folder and files is safe or not.
If I gain abt 1 GB free space more now , this will be sufficient for my needs.
I know HDD nowdays are very chip and maybe this is the best solution, but I am curious to see if there is some spare space in my XP SP3 OS , because I know Windows keeps a lot of Data files and other unnecessary files.
Unfortunatelly WinXPManager 6.0 doesn't offer any possiblity to create backup of files to be deleted. This is realy a bug in this ,not so bad programm.

another option to your space problem would be to copy old files to CDs.

my wife and kids load all of their pictures onto their HD and I sneak into them and burn them to CDs and delete the files.

besides you should think about backing-up/archiving files on some kind of schedule so that you won't have to post HELP I just lost my HDD and files.

If you have installed SP3 via a slipstreamed CD then you have no way to uninstall SP3 and revert back to SP2 other than re-installing Windows and bringing it back to SP2. Therefore you have no need of any SP2 ServicePack files as far as I see.

Not too sure what you mean about your comment on Hibernation. You either want it on your machine or you don't. If you don't then you can disable it and regain a bit of extra space.

I am not familiar with WinManager, so personally, I wouldn't be inclined to trust any recommendation made by it.

@linney,
Thanks m'8 for clarification regarding SP3-yes I've updated my SP2 by slipstriming SP-2 with SP-3 update.
Re hibernation , this was already unchecked when I controled setting for this option.

SP3 includes everything in SP2, just slipstream your SP3,
makes for a smaller file

Another suggestion, if your not going to use CCleaner, then do a search for all of the *.log, *.bak, *.txt files. Either delete all these or back them up and delete them. You might be surprised at how much space you can gain. And any of the files with the above extensions you can't delete, I would open the file and remove all the contents and re-save the file. I've see some really large .log and .txt files that were nothing but install notes, useage logs, etc. Crap you really don't need, in most cases.

Don't know how, but I have not any more files $Nt , also even $hf_mig$ folder.
I know they are hidden files. they were present before on my Windows XP SP3, but now they don't exist.
In C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download there is abt 200 MB , but I am not shure if is safe to delete it.
Another question what I ask you -as I am using KIS 8 , I discovered DATA folder of this one is more than 700 MB of size.
Is that normal, please.

I must correct my above post.
Files with "$Nt" and $hf_mig$ folder exists, but I can not see them.
Programm XPLite 1.9 Pro listed all this files in window Shrink and in Option "Uninstall Files for Windows XP Updates" offers to delete Uninstall data of 785 MB.What is bad thing, if you choose to delete them , you should delete them all- there is no option to exclude any file.
How I can fix this to see again these hidden files in C:\Windows ,please.

@ Ben,
I know how to make hidden files to be visible.
My problem is altough I Check "Show hidden files and filders" and uncheck "Hide extention......" and "Hide protected operating systems"- I can not see $Nt and $hf_mig$ Update files in C:\Windows.
Other hidden files I can see normaly
