I have been considering online courses to obtain my MCSE or MCSA recently. My main question is this feasible? I don't have a great deal of experience with Windows Server 2003, but do online training courses teach you well enough to pass the tests, or do you have to be more experienced to get away with this? If online training would be a possibility, then does anyone have suggestions for places to take the training?

nick8078,

I haven't used any online training, nor spoken with anyone who has. I've used the classroom training approach, the book approach, and the CBT video approach to preparing for exams.

If you can't manage a classroom-based training course, then CBT videos (along with reading the books) is probably the next best thing.

If online classes provide the same amount of information as CBTs and the ability to interact with the instructor, then they may be almost as useful as classroom time. Hopefully the pricetag is lower.

I've used and in fact still have a subscription for some online training for the MCSE stuff. Ihaven't found the online stuff very good and I've since got some CBT videos and books. I've so far done 70-270 70-290 and I'm doing 70-291 in 2 weeks time but it has been the CBTs and books that have really got me through the exams so far.
I can't really put my finger on what is actually wrong with the online stuff, I just found that it didn't hold my attention as much as the CBTs do. I've found that the CBTs give you enough starter knowledge about the key concepts for the exams, ie what everything is and what it does and why it us used and the books then fill in the details.
The online stuff is by far the cheapest but not the best in my opinion.

Robyne,

I am currently using the CBT nuggets for 70-293, and I think that it is a great learning tool. I have tried on line learning in the past but cant quite getting into it.

The CBT Nuggets for the 70-293 has about 18 hours of lessons that are delivered in an interesting that makes you want to absorb the information presented.

The proof will be in the test I will let you know in due time.
