Hi all,

as I project manage a hw/os/lan upgrade, I cringe at the thought of purchasing W2000 server + new CALs. this enterprise has used "ms backoffice small business edition" since 1999, and only used sharing printing and outlook. (no exchange server, no fax services, no shared apps).

the requirements today are about the same: star configuration (20 nodes, all but 3 within 300 ft), shared printing, and (soon to be) shared apps. with shoestring budget, i'd rather put in another desktop than spend the same $600 on the OS + CALs.

not having a network admin background, i'm wondering: Is NT stable for small, non-MIS shop? administering with minimal intervention? resistant to user error (LOL, true - that's a requirement).

Nothing wrong with anyone still running NT4 on a medium sized network. I still have many customers running NT4 with out any problems. The biggest thing(IMO) on going to 2K servers, is when you start doing somethings that are only availible with 2K. If not, then no reason to change from NT4. A+ MCP
