Having just bought a new laptop today, I need to get some anti-virus software put on it. I had been paying for a yearly subscription to Norton in the past, but now wondering if there might be other options that are considered comparable for less cost (or free?)

AVG has a free one. I never used it but Consumer Reports rates it tops each year for the past several years.

If you want Norton Anti-Virus...it is cheaper to buy a new one each year (on sale at a store or amazon) versus resubscribe automatically from Norton after your first year expires.

I found Amazon to be under $10 for an annual Norton Anti-Virus. You simply click "renew" if you already have it installed (but it expired). Then enter the new Software Key that you got when you buy from Amazon.

Good tips, thanks! Looks like few options. I am getting Comcast broadband, so maybe Norton will come with that? I'll have to look into it.
