The site I maintain is hosted by a commercial server. Is my site a "subweb"? on that server? Can I create a "subweb" under the web site I now maintain? The site is Can I build a "subweb" like Or what would it be named? Maybe, Can I do this from my computer, or do I have to contact (and pay) the hosting service? If this sounds too simple, mea culpa!
Thanks,

Gus

is not a sub web. You don't need to pay extra for a subweb, but they can be a little more tricky to maintain.

It looks like you need a place to keep sensitive information, in which case you don't need a subweb, you can either password protect a page, or have a page that's not linked, and only the people that know the URL can get to it.

If you want to see an example of a subweb, go to my company's web site at and click on products, then click on any of the product logos like TechTools. You should now be in my TechTools subweb. It has it's ownindex page and can also have it's own theme. The Vector products page has a variation of the main theme.

My web directory on my PC has them as separate webs and I made a subdirectory for each one one my ftp site. I use WS FTP to organize my ftp site. I don't know if this would be possible publishing with Front Page.

Thank you for your attention to my inquiry. I will print a copy of your suggestions, and I'm sure they will lead me to a better understanding of what I'm doing (or what I'm trying to do!) Thanks again,
Gus :)

Gus,

I have been told that even though a page is not linked, somebody who doesn't know the URL could get to that page, perhaps by a search engine. Do you STILL feel secure with this method? That is what I am doing, but I occasionaly feel pangs of doubt.

Thanks.

Dance,

If it is password protected, it shouldn't be a problem (do a search for .htacess for more info).

Also, you can use a robots file to stop search engines crawling parts of your web. There would be no reason for an indexing service to waste its time or yours trying to index private pages. Search for that too.
