Is it possible to "network" to ME PC's using USB? I just purchased a new compaq laptop and I did not realize that it did not have a serial port, but it does have USB. I know that I should probably purchase a 10/100 PCMCIA card, but I do not have the money at the moment. Can someone give me any pointers on how to do this in the most inexpensive way?

Thanks

There are USB network devices that do that unfornately I cannot remember manufactirers names or prices but I know it's out there!

Yes - Costco, Walmart, BestBuy, etc. These places near you (one of them should be) will sell a USB "connection kit" that allows you to directly connect two PC's via USB.

Pretty simple stuff, plug in, toss in the disk, presto.

There are also stackable modular USB appliance hubs with Serial port expansions, parallel expansions, network expansions, etc.

As far as not being able to afford a network card goes, I just got a new laptop (I am having trouble finding a way to get multiple network configurations setup) and I ordered a 10/100 PC Card NIC for it for something like $45, and that included shipping and everything. I'm sure that any sort of connection software hardware would be close to that anyway, so its probably better to just get the card!

your right it easyer just to get a nic usb connection cost about $100 usaly and nic are faster for most things
So long and thanks for all the fish.

So how is it possible to connect to PC's via a USB port? You see, I have a notebook with sensitive data, and I have a desktop computer with a CD writer. I would like to transfer data from the notebook to that desktop computer and write the data on the CD writer. I guess the only possible option is through USB (since I don't have a hub at home, and only notebook has an ethernet card). Do I need some special cable and/or software to connect them? May be there are other ways? I would be very very thankful for any help. ---
