I am copying a number of files in a few folders, some of which contain folders.

I do not want to copy the subfolder or contents (which tend to be empty anyway) but I get the message:
cp: 0653-436 /oracledata/IFSD/backup is a directory.
Specify -r or -R to copy.

Is there any way to supress this error, since it crowds the report.

Not essential, but nice!

Thanks

muhab, I would like to receive valid errors, such as permission or locking problems.

You say it crowds 'the report'. Is this report a text file you're writing to. If so, you can grep out the 0653 errors once it is complete and place the rest in another file. Does this help?

ken,

That's a smart idea actually. At the moment it's a screen display but probably will end up a report. Top tip yet again!

or you could redirect errors to a separate file
