I am trying to import Word files into Quark 4.1 and when I apply the style from my stylesheet in Quark I lose the formatting in the text. ie superscript text is nolonger there it is just a regular character. Any Ideas?

Use Xpress tags in the word doc for character-level formatting, save as text with the .txt extension, and get text that way.

Sorry, I submitted too soon - I also believe there's a commercial xtension for quark to do what you need.

dmacster,

I should have been more clear... we have purchased the software that you have mentioned but the problem lies when you import the xtg file that qXport converter 3 I can apply the style sheet but the paragragh retains all of the original stlye settings from word and does not take on the attributes from the style sheet ie font, font size and leading but keeps character level formatting like Italic, super script.

When I option click (remove local formatting) all of the attributes from the style sheet are applied ie.font, font size and leading but the character level formatting like Italic, super script are lost.

thanks for all of your help!!

Hmm. So the style sheet name from Word is the same as the one in Quark? If I remember the last time I had to do this, I do a find/replace for paragraph level style sheets first (letting the + stay) then replaced the character level with character level styles from quark, i.e. Paragraph level "Text" has the bold attribute for some words - did a search for the bold attribute and changed to non-bold using character-level style. Do a quick test should let you know if it would work.

The only other suggestion would be to do the word doc using xpress tags (not as time consuming as it appears), save as text with .txt and then get text in Quark.
