Hello, I was wondering if its possible to run 2 services , SIP proxy and SRC over the same MBG server. According to the MBG documentation its possible, but according to regional Mitel support office it should not be done this way because its not the common practice.

I have to install it on single server because we are running low on server space inside the rack.
Any thoughts?

We have one customer where we have installed both services on the same sever. SRC for recording IPT Traders phones and Sip proxy to connect Sip trunks from the 3300 to a Call Manager. It works well... We haven't got any faults reported so far.

Why do they want to put services on different servers?

How is the MBG currently configured? DMZ or server and gateway?

If you have a suitable server you could divide it up into several virtual machines and then run the applications on each VM.
Moving to VM has lots of benefits, one of which is rack space.
The reason Mitel probably recommend putting the applications on different servers is primarily security related, TCP ports etc. However having applications on dedicated servers also gives you a greater degree of flexibility e.g. upgrades, reboots etc.
Like Dan has said it will work and do what you want, but this might throw up an unforeseen issue in the future.

@Supernova99:
Well actually I didn't know about vMBG and ended up installing normal MBG on VMware Server 2, which is free to use.. worked pretty well until Mitel told me that they only support vMBG over VMware and that must be on VMsphere etc, so not free of course. Now I have to install it/them on a physical machine.

@ danramirez: It will be on LAN mode, and according to documentation it must be able to support both services at the same time over single MBG. Also because the interfaces and ports being used will be different that is why i assumed there shouldn't be any problem. But I just wanted to confirm this from someone with previous experience. Better safe than sorry.

1). For support you need to use the ESXi virtual machine from vMWare. It is free. Its the advanced option and vCenter that are not free.

2). Think that they say to spit the applications because a SIP proxy would mean that MBG would potentially be exposed to the internet where as the SRC is an internal application. The recorded audio from the sets would need to go to the SRC which might be in the DMZ. Just a thought.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Yes can be done. We are now running the UCCv2 on 1 virtual server. So 1 MSL with vMCD/vMBG/vUCA/VNupoint/Collab..... all-on-one
Super-package for small and medium businesses
