NEVER delete transaction logs as you may put your IS into an unrecoverable state. Run through a full backup and the logs should be purged. If you are using BAckupExec etc and this is failing test with NtBackup.
Look in the app logs to check if the backup is failing and why (if you are receiving 1018s) then you have a HW problem. Usually RAID controller or the physical disk itself.
NOTE: the 1018 will actually be in the description you will prob see an ESE error 200 - 400 if this is happening.
