Is it ok to delete this? I am running SP4 and do not plan on uninstalling it.

C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386

I want to free up some space on my c drive to give me a few more months before buying a new server or adding a new hard drive.

Thanks in advance.

No, I think that you'll need that one. There is usually a separate directory listed that holds the service pack uninstall files in it. If I'm not mistaken, this is a copy of the i386 directory from the latest service pack that is used when you add/remove services, or make other changes that require the i386 directory. Back in the NT4 days you would have to reinstall the SP after adding new hardware or new services, but with 2000 it caches a copy of i386 and uses it instead.

If you need space, I would suggest reviewing what is on the C: drive and figure out if any of that can be moved/removed.

And anything you THINK you can delete, play it safe, burn it to a DVD or CD.

Folks are correct, do NOT remove anything from winnt. Anything as far as programs should be loaded on a different drive, and only the OS should be on the C drive. If you need another server down the road, please keep this in mind. Good luck.

I didn't say not to remove anything from C:\winnt. I said to leave the C:\winnt\servicepackfiles\i386 directory intact. It's perfectly safe to remove the uninstall files for service packs and patches if:

a) you need the space, and

b) you don't intend on uninstalling patches.

The uninstall files that I'm talking about are compressed and hidden under C:\Winnt. Their names start and end with a '$' and usually include the words "NTUninstall" along with a KB article number.
