Just making sure all is normal here. i never realized that the explore application had capital file extension. In my task manager it states: "explorer.EXE". is this normal (Win2k Pro sp3) /? ...or is this some freakin trojan that over wrote the original file?

Thanks for all your help

there was trojan that had installed another explorer.exe.

it was the Dlder trojan/spyware that was packaged with Kazaa and Morpheus older verions.

I would update you AV software and do a scan. I have W2K with SP3 and mine reads all lowercase Thanks

cool. thanks ...how about anyone else...please check your taskmanager and locate your explorer.exe. is the '.exe' in caps or not (.EXE)?

regards

I too have several different processes like WINLOGON.EXE or explorer.EXE, or EXPLORER.EXE, that are always either a few a in [CAPS] or just one, especially winlogon.exe and sometimes IEXPLORE.EXE too.

I know I've got several viruses that AVG scanner picks up but either wont heal or cant delete them right. Did I say AVG cant do it right?
I meant , I'm not doing something right. Maybe like installing some real virus software .maybe?

I have several process's like WINLOGON.EXE in upper case but nothing with only the EXE extension in upper case. Explorer.exe is all lowercase.

I'd suggest getting SP4 on there to start with and make sure you have a good AV program. Make sure you install all the critical patches as well.

Sorry, just realised how old this original post was. I'm sure you've got this sorted by now?
