Hi,

Is it necessary to install crystal reports software to run the exe? Usually we can run the exe without installing the software. All crystal reports working fine in my system since crystal is installed in my m/c.I send both crf and exe and rpt files to the client they are not able to run the files since s/w is not installed in their m/c.Is there any shared dll should i copy to their machine?

Pls help its an urgent request
Thanks
jessy

Hi
To answer your question:
1: what version of crystal are you running?
2: if version 8 and up there no report compiler.
you can still get it from crystal knkoledge base website
download it and then you can compile the report and the report viewer will be install on there computer. Use the distribution version for that feature.

Hi,

I am using crystal version 8.5 and compiler is available in my machine.I compiled the report and copied the rpt,crf and exe file into another machine in which crystal is not installed. But exe is not working in that machine but its working fine in my machine.Do i need to copy any shared DLL to other machine in which crystal is not installed .
Any idea
Thanks

From the report compiler/distribution expert, be sure to select the "distribute report after" option. This will create a setup.exe that will take care of all .dlls needed.

If it still doesn't work, make sure that the DSN or physical path to the data exists on the destination machine.

hi,

i tried to compile again using the distribute after option. But its giving me error 'Distribution expert not installed.'Actually its there in my m/c.So i tried another option in under report menu option 'report disribution expert'using this i copied the database files and dll into the destination m/c in which crystal is not installed, then run the setup.exe in the destination m/c .Report is working fine

Now my question is that if i have 30 reports should i do the same procedures for the all reports or should i need to put only exe's of the other reports in destination m/c?

Thanks
Jessy

whats an m/c?

As far as I know, running the report distribution expert is the only way to get your reports in an .exe format, and you have to run the setup.exe on each workstation.

You can do this for multiple reports at once by hitting the "add" button in the report distribution expert and browsing to as many reports as you want. Then, all 30 reports can be on the one setup.exe file created. Software Sales, Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

ohh sorry it is machine (m/c).Its working fine thanks...

Once you've installed the setup program once on a client machine, they will have all the run time files they need.

You can distribute a new compiled report by sending just the rpt, crf and exe files, or put them in a server folder and several people access the new reports.

Compiling one report is okay, but it gets tedious if you've got more than 30 of them. That is why products that view reports (like my own cView) are useful. They just find a rpt file and can process it live against the DB. Editor and Publisher of Crystal Clear
